2008 Banquet

Thanks to all who attended the year end banquet. It is very difficult to summarize 3 years of effort and dedication of 32 seniors in 2 hours. There were so many great experiences over the last 3 years. It was a great opportunity to gather and reminisce about this past season and look forward to the upcoming season. Go Vikings!!

Final Regular Season Game

We play Northridge this week for the final regular season game. It is also the last game for JV and Sophs. Varsity and Sophs are at Northridge and JV is home. Finish Strong is our emphasis.

Coach G: We played with great effort and enthusiasm but made too many mistakes and eventually ran out of time. It is important to minimize the impact of our mistakes and maximize our successes.

Snow and Midweek Football

We play Layton with JV and Sophs on Tuesday, and Varsity at home on Wednesday evening. There will be practice, film and conditioning, for the varsity on Thursday morning. The rest of the weekend is a free weekend to go and enjoy snow or sun, whatever it might be. Our emphasis this week will be FIST.

This week is also Senior Parent Night. We honor the senior players at a banquet after the season is over but every year we honor the parents of the senior players just before our last regular season home game. It is a way to show our appreciation to the parents. Thank you for allowing us to coach your sons.

Coach G: What a great team win! I want to emphasize that each player doing his job with extraordinary effort makes a huge difference in how the team plays. That was a great example of the 3 phases of our team working together. There were mistakes made but because of the energy and team effort it is possible to overcome them and succeed. Keep working to "become the bow"

Weber Week

Varsity and Sophomores play at Weber, 3650 North 500 West Pleasant View. JV plays at Viewmont. There will be a practice for Sophomores, JV and Varsity Saturday morning at 8:00am. The emphasis this week is enthusiasm. Team energy and enthusiasm overcomes many mistakes.

Coach G: We emphasized enthusiasm and we played and encouraged with good enthusiasm. We also emphasized win one play at a time and focus on the current play. Many times our focus was on what had already happened, we were not "turning the page". Frustration changes the focus. We must improve our ability to focus our intensity, especially in adverse situations.

Back to Basics Week

The emphasis this week is going "back to the basics". During 2-a-days the emphasis is on basic fundamental football and now during the halfway point of the season it is again an emphasis to focus on the basic fundamentals of football. It is not complicated the fundamentals are blocking and tackling, throwing and catching, kicking and protecting the ball, pursuing and playing team football.
Coach G: We made mistakes and lost energy. We must focus on what we can control and trust each other to do the same. Keep working and compete for everything!
